STOP ASSUMING YOU HAVE HEALED

When you have been through a traumatic or painful experience that leaves you feeling broken, worthless and hopless. It’s often easy for you to keep yourself occupied with all manner of activities so as to avoid facing and dealing with the hurt and pain you feel inside.

Some years ago, I went through a painful experience that left me depressed and broken. I was so afraid of doing a soul search to understand why I thought and felt the way I did, the impact that the experience had on me and how badly it had affected me.

Instead of facing and dealing with the pains and hurt I felt, I decided to ignore them thiking that the less I thought about them the better I would become and the quicker I would heal.  I started focusing my attention of pursuing my goals and for some years I assumed I was ok and I had  healed and let go of  the past. But little did I know that all I did was cover up a fresh wound that had never healed.

However, something happened later on that pierced through the fresh wound I had covered up for some time and you can imagine this time around the pain I felt was worse that the one I felt the first time. It was then I realized that I hadn’t healed at all.  All along I had assumed I had  healed because I had  intentionally kept myself busy with activities that distructed me from going through the process of complete healing. Though the goals I was pursuing during that period were good, the honest truth is that I wasn’t so effective and I wasn’t getting the best out of all I was doing because it felt  like I was going in circles.  I thank God for his grace because I am no longer in that place anymore.

Anyway, Just like me, you  may be assuming that you have healed, let go of your past hurts and forgiven the people that hurt you in the past. Whereas, you still harbor alot of hatred, bitterness and resentment towards those people that hurt you.  Healing isn’t a confession you make by word of mouth to convince people around you that you are ok. Healing is a journey that requires you to be intentional about putting in the works that will enable you see positive results and changes in your life.

Making the decision that you want to heal is great but it is not enough  because decision without action will not bring about the results of healing that you desire. The first step to healing is to understand why you need to heal and  in order for you to know why you need to heal you need to face your emotions and understand the impact that experience had on you.

You can ask your self the following questions and write down the answers in a journal:

*How did this experience make me feel?

*What fears do I now have as a result of the experience I went through?

*Has this experience held me back from pursuing another career, business, relationship etc?

*How has this experience hindered my progress in life?

* How has this experience affected the way I see myself and others?

* How has this experience changed my perception or mindset?

* How has this experience affected my relationship with God?

As you take out the time to answer these questions, allow yourself to feel the different emotions as this will help you understand the impact that your past hurts has had on you, and  once you see the effect its had  on you, you will see the reason why you need to be intentional about your journey of healing.

Do you think you have have healed from your past hurts or you have been assuming and keeping yourself distructed all these years?
